Role Purpose
The Purchasing Manager at Sylvania Lighting Germany GmbH is responsible for leading the strategic and operational procurement activities of the plant. Working with other members of the global sourcing team this role is crucial in ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of high-quality materials and services that meet our rigorous standards. By optimizing supplier relationships and negotiating favorable terms, the Purchasing Manager and his/her team plays a key role in supporting Sylvania Lighting’s mission to deliver innovative and sustainable lighting solutions to our customers. As a team player who thrives in a collaborative environment, he/she understands the significance of working closely with cross-functional colleagues on plant level as well as group level to achieve our goals.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop and implement strategic sourcing strategies in alignment with the Group’s Category Managers and the Asia sourcing team to optimize the supply chain and reduce costs .
* Identify and evaluate potential suppliers, conduct supplier assessments, and establish strong relationships with key suppliers.
* Negotiate terms and conditions with local suppliers, including pricing, MOQ’s and quantity price breaks, delivery schedules, and quality standards.
* Monitor supplier performance to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and quality standards.
* Resolve any issues or discrepancies with suppliers and escalate as necessary.
* Conduct regular supplier reviews and develop improvement plans.
* Manage and control company tooling at suppliers, monitor usage and condition
* Develop and manage the purchasing budget, ensuring alignment with company financial goals.
* Monitor and analyze spending patterns to identify cost-saving opportunities.
* Implement cost control measures and track savings achieved through procurement initiatives.
* Ensure compliance with purchasing processes and procedures and continuously evaluate and improve them to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
* Implement best practices and leverage technology to streamline procurement operations.
* Ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements.
* Collaborate with internal stakeholders, including quality management, PLMs, R&D,, finance, and production teams, to understand procurement needs and align strategies.
* Work closely with the logistics and inventory management teams to ensure timely delivery and optimal inventory levels.
* Continuously analyze and improve data quality of the local ERP system.
* Lead and manage assigned purchasing team members
Person Specification and Background
* Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification (e.g., CPSM, CPIM) is a plus.
* Fluency in English and German are required; proficiency in other European languages is highly beneficial.
* Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in procurement or supply chain management.
* Proven track record of successful supplier negotiations and cost-saving initiatives.
* Out-of-the-box thinking and hands-on mentality
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Proficiency in procurement software and tools (e.g., ERP systems).
* Leadership experience is beneficial
* Occasional travel to supplier locations, other Sylvania sites and industry conferences.
Additional Information
* Experience in the lighting industry or a related sector.
* Knowledge of global sourcing and international trade regulations and processes
