Job Description
Summary: Qualified Labor and Employment (L&E) Lawyer specializing in laws & regulations/policies & practices as it pertains to employees, including in the areas of IT systems and benefits & compensation across the Europe region. Interprets simple internal and external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services. Stays informed of industry trends that may influence work.
The location is flexible (Frankfurt, Nuremberg) and the role will support NIQ/GfK for the Europe region, with a strong focus on Germany and Austria. The position will be expected to work as part with cross functional teams to support the business L&E needs as required.
Responsibilities
* Contact person for the German works councils and ensuring trustful cooperation with the committees in order to implement corporate programs and changes as fast as possible.
* Cooperation with various committees (e.g. IT Committee of the Group Works Council of the German companies including the negotiation of Group works agreements with this committee)
* Providing legal advice and support on Labor and Employment law issues to NIQ/GfK across Germany and Austria. Provide legal advice across a wide range of issues, including, for example, cross border restructuring projects, redundancies and outsourcing; employment litigation; collective bargaining obligations; employee discipline, grievances and termination; drafting of employment separation agreements; working time obligations.
* Retain and work effectively with outside counsel where required
* Work as part of the L&E team to drive simplification initiatives and consistent enterprise standards for Labor and Employment support across the Europe Region.
Qualifications
* Qualified lawyer in German jurisdiction.
* Post-qualification experience in labor and employment law in Germany, including demonstrated knowledge and experience of labor & employment law across multiple European jurisdictions.
* Deep experience in negotiating and consulting with German and Austrian Works Councils
* Preferably time spent in-house with a large multinational corporation, that includes:
o Extensive “hands-on” labor & employment legal experience, ideally including experience of handling cross-border matters and major projects; and
o Substantial experience and success in working with senior management and international environments
* Project management experience
* Outstanding written and oral communication skills
* Hands-on, roll up your sleeves attorney who can work well in a fast-paced environment
* The experience and confidence to push for change and, when appropriate challenge the status quo, in a way that will be heard and respected
* Unquestioned integrity and ethics in business and personal conduct
* Able to work collaboratively across multiple functions in a team environment to implement complex programs; strong interpersonal skills; team player with a sense of humor and ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels
* Must be a self-starter and finisher with the ability to efficiently complete projects with minimal oversight
* A sophisticated understanding of business and commerce in order to ensure that a compliant environment is aligned with corporate business objectives
* Ability to problem solve and think strategically in ambiguous situations
* Ability to distill complex legal concepts and issues in a manner to make them understandable to non-legal specialists
* Strong decision-making aptitude
* Solutions-oriented approach to problem solving
* Excellent risk identification and mitigation skills
* Fluent in English and German language
