RESEARCH ASSOCIATE (M/F/D) PROVENANCE STUDIES

As part of the Digital Provenance and Collection Research Science Space (Wissenschaftsraum-Initiative), which is funded by the state of Lower Saxony and the Volkswagen Foundation with around 3 million euros at several locations, 10 research associate positions will be advertised over the funding period of a total of 4 years.
The University is looking for a responsible, motivated and committed person for the Lichtenberg Professorship for Provenance Studies (Prof. Dr. Lynn Rother) of the School of Culture and Society as soon as possible.
Research Associate (m/f/d)
(salary group EG 13 TV-L, 100%, limited until 31.10.2028)
The position is one of two positions in the sub-project PAESE 3.0 (the second position, with a duration of 3 years, is to be filled on November 1, 2025). The research focus of the sub-project is object and provenance data generated as part of the joint project Provenance Research in Non-European Collections and Ethnology in Lower Saxony (PAESE) 2018-2022, which has since been supplemented by data from other researched collections from institutions in Lower Saxony.
Your responsibilities:
* Scientific coordination of the sub-project (in consultation with the sub-project leaders and in cooperation with the 2nd position from 2025)
* Coordination and collaboration with partners within and outside the Science Space
* Creating a requirement analysis for the further development of the PAESE data (needs of the scientific community, communities of origin and, if applicable, other potential users)
* Enrichment and contextualization of PAESE data (from 2025 in cooperation with the 2nd office from 2025)
* Coordination and management of student assistants
* Project-related public outreach, for example through presentations at specialist conferences and the writing of scientific and science policy texts, including best practice guidelines
* Planning and realization of project workshops
* Networking with initiatives on collection items from colonial contexts at the national and international level
* Preparation of schedules, budgets, reports, etc. for the sub-project and in coordination with the partners
Your profile:
* Ph.D. (completed) in history, anthropology/ethnology, art history, sociology, computer science, library science, data science or other fields relevant to digital humanities research
* Track record working with collections from colonial contexts
* Experience in the field of cultural heritage informatics
* Familiarity with metadata standards, such as CIDOC-CRM and authority files
* Openness to transdisciplinary collaboration
* Independent and responsible work ethic
* Excellent written and spoken English skills
* Knowledge of French and other languages desirable
