Recognizing strokes is a challenge even for experienced medical staff, especially in primary care. With around 270,000 cases in Germany, “time is brain”: the faster the stroke is recognized and acted upon, the better the chances of recovery. However, recognizing a stroke is complex, as the symptoms can present themselves very differently.
In this thesis, suitable AR glasses and sensor technology that enable the detection of strokes using a local AI model will be discussed and implemented. The challenges and limitations of its use as an aid for primary care should be considered in the selection and implementation.
What you will do
* Conducting a comprehensive literature review and requirements analysis of existing AR and AI systems in the emergency services
* Implementation of AR glasses that support local AI models
* Integration of additional sensor technology to enable stroke detection
* Development of algorithms and application of AI models to recognize stroke symptoms on the AR glasses
* Validation of the solution through experiments
* Documentation and presentation of the research results
What you bring to the table
* Good programming skills, ideally in Python or C++
* Experience with AI models and using the corresponding tools
* Ideally experience with AR/VR/MR glasses
* Interest in and/or basic knowledge of medicine
* Independent, thorough and systematic way of working
* Enjoy applied research and interdisciplinary work
* Completed basic studies in a STEM subject
* Fluent in German or English
What you can expect
* Practical research that shapes the future of healthcare
* Interdisciplinary, scientifically oriented working environment with close supervision
* Well-equipped laboratories and modern research OR with Cone Beam CT
* Table football during the lunch break
* Research that shapes the future of healthcare
