The Excellence Cluster Cardio-Pulmonary Institute (CPI) of the Justus Liebig University Giessen (JLU) combines state-of-the-art basic science and sophisticated pre-clinical research in lung and heart diseases. The Chair for Molecular Mechanisms of Emphysema, Hypoxia and Lung Aging, Prof. Dr Norbert Weissmann, invites talented and motivated candidates to apply for a position as a Doctoral Scholarship (PhD, f/m/d). The successful candidate should learn to evaluate research results independently, write scientific abstracts and manuscripts, and participate in one of the internationally leading graduate programmes associated with pulmonary research. Experimental research includes at least one of the following areas:
Molecular, cell biological, physiological, and histological examinations of pulmonary emphysema or pulmonary hypertension.
Investigation of genetic/epigenetic signatures and molecular pathways leading to lung injury and repair.
Examinations in pre-clinical disease models with advanced imaging techniques.
Clinical studies from available biobank material.
The project will be carried out in close collaboration with the Collaborative Research Center (SFB) 1213 \\"Pulmonary Hypertension and Cor pulmonale\\" and the Universities of Giessen and Marburg Lung Center (UGMLC), integrated into The German Center for Lung Research (DZL).
