Ph.D. Researcher Cell Painting for Ecotoxicology (all genders)
Cell Painting is a high-throughput image-based screening method used frequently in drug discovery. It’s application to environmental chemicals has been established. So far nearly all studies were conducted using human cell lines with the aim to predict toxicity to humans. In this project, Bayer Crop Science and the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ) (High-throughput ecotoxicology group, Dr. Jo Nyffeler) teamed up to explore the applicability of Cell Painting assays on cell lines from diverse species for characterization of the environmental safety profile of plant protection products. This PhD position offers an opportunity to develop and characterize innovative in vitro ecotoxicological methods for plant protection products at the interface of academic research and industry application.
