The Position
In Roche’s Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development organisation (pRED), we make transformative medicines for patients in order to tackle some of the world’s toughest unmet healthcare needs. At pRED, we are united by our mission to transform science into medicines. Together, we create a culture defined by curiosity, responsibility and humility, where our talented people are empowered and inspired to bring forward extraordinary life-changing innovation at speed.
We have a unique and exciting opportunity to work at the cutting edge of therapeutic antibody engineering at Roche. We are looking for a highly talented scientist that can fill this position preferably immediately.
You will be joining Large Molecule Research (LMR), a technological unit within Roche Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED). Within LMR, you will be working in the Biologics Display and Engineering team of the Lead ID department, which is responsible for the generation, identification and optimization of fit-for-purpose protein therapeutics.
In this environment, we are looking for a talented Scientist (m/f/d) who possesses excellent scientific qualities – especially thoroughness and attention to detail. You must have a keen interest in the field of directed evolution including phage display, and should be eager to perform state-of-the-art laboratory-based research within small teams. Your work will be focused on the development and novel applications of a break-through bispecific antibody technology and include approximately 75% wet work.
The position:
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following tasks:
* Your main focus will be the discovery and optimization of therapeutic antibodies, including bi- and multi-specific formats
* This will include the design and cloning of antibody libraries, manual and automated in vitro display selections and high throughput screening
* Promising antibody candidates will be expressed, purified and characterized by a variety of methods with a particular focus on Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR)
* This will be followed by antibody optimization using affinity maturation and data-driven protein engineering
Who you are:
* You hold a Ph.D.-level degree in Biochemistry, Biotechnology or related field
* You have at least 3 years hands-on laboratory experience in molecular biology and protein engineering including in vitro display technologies
* Exceptionally qualified applicants (m/f/d) with >8 years relevant experience but without a Ph.D. are also encouraged to apply
* You have a deep understanding of antibody structure and protein-protein interactions
* Hands-on experience in SPR, FACS, HT screening, automation and/or experience with microfluidic and droplet technology would be a strong plus
* Affinity to computational approaches or general programming skills would also be an asset
* You are able to accurately record and efficiently communicate scientific data and ideas in English (Knowledge of the German language is not mandatory)
