This role will be responsible for supporting a number of compliance programs including new business and conflicts intake and general regulatory risk management, while developing and maintaining substantive knowledge of and familiarity with the legal ethics and professional responsibility rules applicable in the firm’s geographic jurisdictions, particularly those outside of the United States, while also understanding Latham’s procedures, policies, and practices relating to conflicts and other ethical issues. This role will be located in either our Frankfurt or Düsseldorf office. Please note that this role may be eligible for a flexible working schedule that allows for a hybrid and in-office presence.Other key responsibilities include: Assisting senior lawyers and other Conflicts Department staff in identifying, evaluating, and resolving ethical and business conflict issues relating to conflicts checks for laterals and new businessPerforming legal research and analysis projects relating to conflicts or other aspects of ethics and/or professional responsibility as requested by the Senior Assistant General CounselsTaking responsibility for general risk management programs, such as accountant’s letters, contract review, and any local compliance programsProviding support for local and regional anti-money laundering complianceAssisting with the review and analysis of Outside Counsel Guidelines, Engagement Letters, and other terms of engagement with firm clientsAssisting various stakeholders in researching and analysing complex ethics and compliance questions We’d love to hear from you if you: Exhibit highly developed and professional interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to interact effectively with people at all organisational levels of the firmDemonstrate the ability to work in a team environmentDisplay the willingness to work in a hybrid style, with the majority of the days being in the office And have: A Bachelor’s degreeA Law degree or an equivalentQualification as a solicitor, barrister, or an equivalent foreign lawyer with an unfettered right to practice in their home jurisdictionAn active practising certificate or local bar membershipExperience working in a conflicts teamPost qualification experience, preferablyGeneral law firm compliance experience, preferably Successful candidates will not only be provided with an outstanding career opportunity and welcoming environment, but will also be provided with a generous total compensation package with bonuses awarded in recognition of both individual and firm performance.
