PhD Student Epidemiology of Cardiometabolic Disease (f/m/d)

We work with data from large population-based cohorts to investigate prevalence and risk factors of common diseases to improve personalized risk prediction, prevention, and treatment. In this context, we are currently evaluating the performance of medical imaging data within the NAKO cohort ()

Besides your affiliation with the University Medical Center, you will be able to enroll as a PhD student at the University of Freiburg and participate in further scientific training.
Responsibilities:
1. You conduct statistical analyses of population-based imaging data, with a focus on cardiometabolic phenotypes
2. You identify relevant hypotheses and research questions
3. You write scientific manuscripts for publication in international, peer-reviewed journals
4. You collaborate and communicate with an inter-disciplinary team (physicians/clinicians, epidemiologists, computer scientists, statisticians)
5. You support the supervision of projects for research interns and MD students
Required skills:
6. excellent Master’s degree or comparable qualification in epidemiology, (bio-)statistics, data science, medicine/public health with strong quantitative focus, or comparable discipline
7. excellent knowledge of basic statistical methods (e.g. descriptive statistics, hypothesis testing, regression modeling)
8. very good command of at least one statistical computing software, preferably R.
9. very good command of English language (written and spoken)
10. first experience with the analysis of an epidemiological data set
Beneficial:
11. Experience with population-based data and/or large data sets
12. Experience with advanced statistical methods, e.g. regularization, clustering, mediation
13. Experience with scientific writing and publishing
14. Command of German language (written and spoken)
Your workplace is located at the Medical Center of the University of Freiburg, Campus Freiburg. Compensation is according to tariff TV-L 13 and 65% of the regular weekly working time. The position is initially limited to 3 years, with the earliest possible start date.
