Your role
You will lead an independent research group to pursue exciting, ambitious and original research to model complex bioogical systems, and their response to perturbations. The future group will be embedded in a very interdisciplinary and collaborative environment, which promotes and supports many opportunities for interaction with other research groups. As a new faculty member at EMBL, you will also be part of the wider EMBL communicty, and can therefore avail of the multidisciplinarity and breadth of research throughout the institute.
Applicants developing and applying AI-based approaches to address questions in any area of genome biology are encourged to apply. These include but are not limitted to model-based approaches for genome regulation (transcription, translation, protein activity, signalling), proteomics, genotype-phenotype, exposome research, single-cell biology, multi-omics and spatio-temporal biology. We welcome applicants who have the vision to integrate their computational program with the experimental activities and facilities in the Unit and at EMBL.
EMBL generally appoints group leaders early in their career and provides a very supportive, collegial and family friendly environment in which to develop original, cutting-edge research. Significant yearly core funding for the entire stay, access to outstanding Ph.D. students and post-docs combined with very limited teaching obligations allow you to sucessfully lead an ambitious, farsighted research program.
EMBL’s scientific direction, Molecules to Ecosystems, include a vision to advance our understanding of ecosystems at the molecular level, applying expertise in molecular biology to study life in its natural context. Research areas include applying experimental, computational and theoretical approaches to study how cells and organisms interact with each other and respond to environmental change, at multiple levels (molecules, cells, tissues and populations). These themes are embedded in the research within the Genome Biology Unit and we are interested in hosting computational activities that address these areas in creative innovative ways.

You have
You should have a concise research plan with original and ambitious research goals. You should have an excellent Ph.D. and post-doctoral track record relevant to AI / Computational biology, with an interest in the wider field of genome biology. Applicants with a purely computaitonal background in computer science, (bio)informatics/mathematics, engineering, physics with a keen interest to understand the molecular complexity of cells and how that changes, are encouraged to apply.
You should be strongly motivated to collaborate with surrounding colleagues, and to train, nuture and mentor your team.
