Position Summary: We are looking for an agile Electrical design Manager to join our Delivery Team at Colt DCS, serving as a Design Manager and subject matter expert on discipline matters. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager (UK/EUR) of the Major Builds Delivery Team. You will lead the delivery of a multi-disciplinary design, managing external engineering consultants and contractors to ensure successful project delivery within programme, design, and budget. The successful candidate must take a proactive approach to design, cost, and project management, providing solutions to challenges and ensuring we meet Colt’s Global design standards. An ‘outside of the box’ thinking mentality is crucial for addressing site-specific issues and delivering projects on time and within budget, while keeping the customer at the forefront of all decisions. Job Summary Key Responsibilities: - Oversee the Design Programme to ensure timely creation and review of Employers Requirements (ER’s), tender information, and design documentation for planning and construction. - Guide and challenge external Design Consultants and Contractors using a ‘Trust but Verify’ approach to ensure designs meet the Design Brief requirements. - Periodically assess and evaluate project-related design decisions, collaborating with Senior DCS staff as needed. - Apply a commercial approach across design engineering and construction, working with Procurement and Delivery teams to drive cost reduction, speed to market, and achieve low PUE values in line with Colt’s sustainability targets. - Actively participate in project commissioning activities and provide support to the Global Head of Electrical Engineering based on lessons learned from live projects. - Review design proposals, specifications, and manuals on the BIM 360 Platform, assessing feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements. - Ensure all project documentation adheres to internal governance approvals and participates in team workload to meet deadlines. - Work closely with Project Managers, other design engineers, and construction teams to drive project programmes, liaise with customers to develop specific project design requirements, and deliver high-quality projects to meet customer expectations. Job Description Qualifications and Skills: • The ideal candidate should have robust design management skills, a proven record of accomplishment in Multi-Disciplinary Project delivery and a strong background in all aspects of mission critical systems, with a focus on Electrical engineering. • A thorough understanding of site planning and interdependent disciplines, such as civils, structures and architecture and project delivery processes needed to support our growing fleet of Data Centres, is strongly desired. • This person shall be detail-oriented, possess strong organizational skills, and be a self-starter that can excel with little direction. Ownership: • Regularly checks with other areas of the business that they and their team are delivering on their part of any activity, working with them to resolve issues to ensure flawless delivery • Regularly reviews spend and identifies opportunities to drive down the cost or improve the return on investment of their personal / team’s activities Leadership: • Looks at industry best practice and current trends/innovations for their role and applies these within Colt – sharing what has worked and what has not (and why) with others who hold similar roles within the business. • Understands cultural differences and utilises this understanding to ensure the successful completion of a task Teamwork: • Proactively requests other team member’s views and opinions; using this feedback to improve personal performance • Identifies areas where relationships between the team and its stakeholders are not working effectively; making well-considered recommendations on suggestions for improvement – implements agreed actions. • Takes action to maintain morale and productivity of geographically distributed teams. Experience: • Generators, and Transformers • MV and LV Switch Gear • Lighting, Fire systems and Security • BMS • Proficient knowledge of Mechanical Engineering principles • General knowledge of CSA (Civils, Structural, Architectural) disciplines principles • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering • Excellent written and Verbal English and German skills.
