Your role
As a Scientific Officer at EMBL in Savitski Team your responsibilities will include:
* Usage of state-of-the-art methodologies for the identification, quantification and functional characterization of proteomes and their PTMs by applying diverse methods, including thermal proteome profiling, solubility proteome profiling, protein expression, and PTM enrichment analyses (including acetylation, phosphorylation, as well as glycosylation). This includes the generation and processing of samples from preparation to result files. Applying the above-mentioned methods in collaborations within EMBL as well as external academic institutions. Optimization of protocols with regard to throughput and costs.
* Close interaction and exchange with the Proteomics Core Facility to ensure new methodologies of the research group are transferred, including support in their yearly proteomics course.
* Performing basic wet lab tasks, including SDS-PAGE, Western blots, BN-PAGE, co-IPs, enzymatic assays, cell culture of eukaryotic cells, etc.
* Organisational tasks including but not limited to ordering of consumables, maintenance of equipment, purchase and installation of new equipment, organisation of laboratory space, group meeting organisation, lab retreat planning, etc.
* Support of group members in their projects and collaborations, including editing of manuscripts, design of scientific figures.
* Introduction of new group members to standard protocols, equipment and functions within the lab and the EMBL.
You have
* An appropriate University degree (PhD, BSc or MSc) and a minimum of 5 years practical experience.
* Extensive hands-on experience in mass spectrometry-based proteomics, in particular with Thermo instruments and methods.
* Profound knowledge of chemical proteomics, thermal proteome profiling and solubility proteome profiling with a proven track-record. This must include knowledge of TMT-based or SILAC-based protein quantification in the wet lab as well as the dry lab, including data processing (with MSFragger, Fragpipe) and data interpretation; experience with protein-protein interaction characterizations by co-immunoprecipitations, BN-PAGE, and chemical pulldowns; experience with enrichment and analysis of posttranslational modifications, including acetylation, phosphorylation, as well as glycosylation; lysis expertise of a broad range of samples, for example archaea, bacteria, various animals ranging from fish to mouse tissues, cell pellets etc.; high familiarity with culturing eukaryotic cells.
* A high organisational level and collaborative team spirit are essential. Enjoy being part of an international team of young scientists; you have a high level of reliability and a positive mindset.
Software skills: MS Office (in particular Excel and PowerPoint), basics in R, ThermoXcalibur, Google’s suite of web apps, Adobe illustrator or other vector-based graphic software.
* Excellent communication skills and fluency in written and verbal English are essential; German is considered a benefit.
Contract length: 3 years (renewable up to 9 years in total)
