Are you a talented and motivated scientist with a strong background in mathematics, engineering, or physics? Do you have a pa ssion for applying computational methods to life-science data, particularly in the field of organ-on-a-chip (OoC), Microphysiological Systems (MPS), or 3D cell cultures? Are you adept at programming for biological data analysis, AI/ML, and data interpretation? Do you also share our vision of bridging the gap between advanced microphysiological systems and real-world clinical outcomes through innovative computational modeling? Then MPSlabs invites you to consider joining our growing and innovative team MPSlabs is at the forefront of integrating biological data from cutting-edge microphysiological systems, organ-on-chips, and 3D spheroids with advanced computational modeling (such as physiologically based pharmacokinetics, PBPK, and quantitative systems pharmacology or toxicology – QSP & QST) to accelerate drug discovery and development. We partner with leading organizations to explore new therapeutic frontiers and revolutionize how preclinical testing is conducted. To continue driving innovation in this rapidly evolving domain, we are looking for a Senior Scientist Computational Modeling (m/f/d) who will contribute to our diverse, cross-functional projects. This role will involve everything from experimental data interpretation and advanced analytics to computational modeling and simulation for PBPK, AI/ML, and beyond. Role Join a dedicated, high-performing team of scientists, engineers, and computational biologists working on integrative MPS projects. Collaborate across multi-disciplinary teams to design and implement quantitative strategies for analyzing and interpreting preclinical and clinical data. Develop, refine, and apply computational approaches (e.g., PBPK, PK/PD, translational modeling and data analysis) to support drug discovery efforts. Provide pre- and clinical pharmacology and pharmacometric consulting through advanced QSP and PBPK and exposure-response modeling and simulation using the OSP-Suite (PK-Sim, MoBi, R), or other tools Collaborate with colleagues on multi-disciplinary teams to implement quantitative clinical pharmacology projects/programs and to provide clinical pharmacology and QSP/PBPK consultation to other company projects/programs. Develop, refine, and apply state-of-the-art AI/ML approaches (e.g., random forest, neural networks, PCA) to bridge knowledge gaps complementing mechanistic modeling approaches Develop R frameworks for data analysis pipelines and integrate findings within the OSP-suite Contribute to the design and analysis of experiments and studies; engage in data interpretation and communication of results. Serve as a key liaison between laboratory scientists and computational/modeling experts, ensuring robust data generation and analysis. Prepare and present project updates, final technical reports, synopses, executive summaries, and other regulatory documents. Assure appropriateness of methods, integrity of data used for analysis, and accuracy of results Regularly engage with clients regarding the strategic approach, project execution, presentation of results, regulatory implications, and messaging of findings Required skills & experience Proficiency in R for data analysis, omics, and/or AI/ML frameworks; exposure to other programming languages (e.g., Python) is a plus. Demonstrated mathematics, engineering, or physics background; capable of leveraging these skills for quantitative data interpretation. 5 years experience (hands-on or indirect) with in vitro/MPS, organ-on-a-chip, or 3D spheroid systems—while not mandatory, it is highly valued. 5 years experience in data interpretation and analysis : from raw data processing through to communicating complex results effectively. 3 years basic understanding or exposure to pharmacology, PK/PD, and/or PBPK modeling. Familiarity with omics data processing and analysis Knowledge and application of AI/ML tools/techniques for biological datasets, especially with low data count, e.g., NN, random forest, supervised and non-supervised approaches Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills Relationship-building skills with the ability to work closely with project leaders and team members Strong organization skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Work well handling tight deadlines Great critical-thinking and problem-solving skills Fluency in English (oral and written), German is a plus Education PhD or Master’s (with additional 3 years of experience) in quantitative science (e.g., mathematics, physics, engineering, computational biology, or related fields). Additional training or exposure to pharmacokinetics, clinical pharmacology, and/or pharmacology is highly desirable. Further qualities that will put you in the spotlight Familiarity with regulatory requirements for computational modeling in drug discovery/development. Experience preparing, submitting, and publishing peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals with a proven track record. Proven track-record in supporting and writing (research) grants Hands-on or indirect experience with PK-Sim®, MoBi®, or similar PBPK/PKPD tools.
