The University of Rostock offers a diverse, varied and challenging position in a tradition-conscious, yet innovative, modern and family-friendly university in a lively city by the sea.
At the Faculty of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, Chair of Soil Science, subject to allocation of funds, we are offering the following position starting on the next possible date on a temporary basis for the duration of the project "WETSCAPES 2.0", ending on 2028-12-31:
Research Assistant (m/f/d) - Soil Science
We are seeking highly motivated candidates for the newly-established Collaborative Research Center "WETSCAPES 2.0", funded by the German Rearch Foundation (DFG). Doctoral researchers will gain insights into multiple aspects of this interdisciplinary project, building comprehensive knowledge of WETSCAPES 2.0's research themes and specialized expertise in their chosen topic. The integrated research training group "WETSKILLS" provides structured doctoral trainings, preparing participants for excellent career opportunities in academia and industry.
WETSCAPES 2.0 combines expertise from the University of Greifswald, the University of Rostock, the IGB Berlin, GFZ Potsdam, the Ludwig-Maximilians-University München, the MPI for Biogeochemistry Jena and the Humboldt University Berlin. WETSCAPES 2.0 focuses on the functional unterstanding of rewetted fens, including coastal peatlands, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The rewetting of previously drained and often agriculturally used fens lead to the development of novel ecosystems that differ form natural peatlands and are largely unexplored. The planned monitoring, experimental and modeling research emphasizes biogeochemical, hydrological and biological processes, focusing on water and matter fluxes within and beyond the peat body and their associated microbiological and biological drivers. In addition to site-level studies, the role of rewetted fens in the broader landscape is investigated.
