The Applied Machine Learning (AML) Group of the Artificial Intelligence Department is seeking a Machine Learning Scientist to support our scientific activities in the areas of AI, health, environment, and climate. Specifically, in the research and development of new ML methods using multimodal data. The AML working group constantly researches and develops innovative solutions that are used in current and future flagship projects. What you will do
* Pre-processing of various datasets and development of ML models
* Testing, implementing, and benchmarking new research methods
* Developing new ML methods for applications using multimodal data (e.g. images, text, time-series)
* Support the development of prototypes and dashboards for science communication
* Collaborating on exciting projects with external partners and clients
* Presenting results at trade fairs, project meetings, and other occasions
The scientific work offers the possibility of a doctorate.
What you bring to the table
* Master's degree in computer science, mathematics, physics, electrical engineering, or similar fields
* Excellent programming skills and meticulous work approach when implementing, testing, and documenting algorithms
* Advanced knowledge in the field of Machine Learning, especially Deep Learning, LLM, and multi-modal ML
* Relevant references that support your previous R&D accomplishments
* Experience with developing competitive ML models using different data types, e.g., time series, images, or texts in the ML context for at least one of the topics: Health, weather, environmental research
* Experience and confidence in using Python, Linux (Ubuntu) and Git in the terminal
* Autonomy, independence, and initiative
* Teamwork skills and interest in interdisciplinary collaborations

The position is initially limited to 2 years. An extension is explicitly desired.
The weekly working time is 39 hours. This position is also available on a part-time basis.
