For our office in Hamburg we are now looking for an engaged and ambitious
(Senior) Trading Meteorologist
in the Trading Analysis & Algorithms department.
The Trading Analysis & Algorithms department within the Business Unit (BU) Trading works closely with the trading desks and takes the leading role in providing market insights, (fundamental and quantitative) analysis, and ultimately commercial decision support across all commodity areas. As part of the department, the Algorithmic Trading desk works closely with the other trading desks and the Algo Infrastructure team and takes the leading role in algorithmic trading and automated trade execution across BU Trading from the intraday to term horizon.
Your main tasks and responsibilities as a (Senior) Trading Meteorologist:
1. Keep track of the latest weather forecasts and their impact on the power and gas markets, in both short and long-term perspectives, covering foremost Europe but also the US and Asia
2. Communicate current weather developments and provide related advise to traders and portfolio managers through various communication channels
3. Play an active role in developing (systematic and discretionary) weather-driven trading strategies in the short to mid-term term horizon
4. Further develop the quantitative weather models and tools, and conduct commercially relevant quantitative analyses
5. Play an active role in further developing and automating routines, procedures, and applications for weather-related information and data
6. Keep track of the latest, commercially relevant weather research and provide related advise
7. Be part of the Trading Analysis & Algorithms department and contribute to its analysis output as well as the commercial success of BU Trading
8. Educate traders in relevant weather-related topics
Your profile
Our ideal (Senior) Trading Meteorologist has the following qualifications and capabilities:
9. Strong academic background with a Master’s degree or higher in meteorology, or physics/ mathematics with a dominant part in meteorological applications
10. 3+ years’ experience from operational weather forecasting in in a commercial or trading environment at energy companies, banks, or hedge funds with a proven track record
11. Good hydrological and/or wind understanding
12. Good mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills
13. Good programming (esp. Python) and data analysis/mining skills
14. Knowledge of machine learning techniques advantageous but not required
15. Fluency in English (both written and spoken), German language skills advantageous but not required
16. Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate with various internal stakeholders and the willingness to share your knowledge
17. Result-orientated, independent working method with high reliability and readiness to take on responsibility
18. Willingness to start working early in the morning
