About the Role:
An outstanding opportunity awaits a dedicated English/Humanities teacher to join a community-focused school in Williamstown/Altona in 2024. This school, serving around 1000 students from years F-12 across three campuses, provides a great opportunity to be part of a wonderful school community. The school supports both graduates and experienced teachers, offers learning coaching, and great resources.
Key duties:
1. Designing and delivering lessons that focus on developing advanced language skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and viewing under the Victorian Curriculum.
2. Teaching concepts of text analysis, interpreting literature, discussing themes, characters, and literary techniques, and fostering a deeper appreciation for literature, writing sophisticated essays, engaging in debates, and delivering presentations.
3. Introducing students to a wide range of literary genres and texts from various cultural and historical contexts.
4. Teaching grammar, syntax, and language conventions to help students refine their writing and communication skills.
5. Encouraging critical thinking and analysis of texts by teaching students to question, evaluate, and interpret information critically.
6. Nurturing students' creativity and imagination through activities such as creative writing workshops, poetry analysis, and storytelling exercises.
7. Teaching students research skills and methodologies to conduct independent inquiries and investigations.
8. Collaborating with colleagues, to share resources, strategies, and best practices for teaching first language English effectively.
Skills & Experience:
9. Current VIT registration
10. Unrestricted working rights in Australia
11. Demonstrate previous experience in teaching secondary English in Australia
12. Ability to provide contact details for two education-based references from within the last 5 years (student-teacher mentors are acceptable).
Offering:
13. Teaching English to students in years 7-9
14. Term 3 start
15. Salary based on experience ($75k-$115k)
