Your mission
As Senior Advisor on Climate and Peace (all genders) you will lead the integration of climate change considerations into Berghof’s conflict transformation practice, research and training. In collaboration with colleagues, you will be responsible for the development and growth of this strategic focal area for the organisation, as well as advising on the implementation of environmental peacebuilding initiatives. You will strengthen internal coordination and capacity on the topic, drive public messaging, forge new partnerships, and represent Berghof externally on the topic.

Reporting line: To the Head of Strategic Partnerships, Innovation and Impact
* Expand our activities in the strategic focal area of climate and peace, working collaboratively with colleagues and external partners.
* Strengthen our current conflict transformation approaches and methods by further integrating climate change considerations into all aspects of our work.
* Support the development of new climate and peace initiatives and continuously build in-house capacity in this area, including through trainings and guidance development.
* Monitor international developments in the field of climate and peace and identify strategic opportunities for Berghof to fill gaps and provide leadership.
* Build new partnerships with stakeholders relevant to the topic, including international organizations, NGOs, academic institutions, governmental agencies and others.
* Lead advocacy efforts by forming a strong policy influencing strategy targeting selected policymakers on climate and conflict issues, including through strategic networking, communications and outreach.
* Enhance Berghof’s visibility on climate and peace through publications and the participation in international conferences and meetings.
* Together with the Strategic Partnerships Team, identify funding opportunities and develop proposals to secure financial support for climate and peace projects.
Your knowledge, experience & skills
* You have a Master’s degree in environmental studies, peace and conflict studies, international development or a related field.
* You have a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience and a substantial track record of working on climate and peace.
* You have knowledge of climate change, environmental issues, natural resource management and their intersection with peacebuilding and conflict resolution.
* You are familiar with environmental peacebuilding frameworks, approaches, and best practices.
* You have experience in project development and implementation, strong analytical and research skills, as well as expertise in policy analysis and advocacy.
* You have an existing international network in the field of climate and peace.
* You are a team player and able to master challenging situations.
* You are fluent in English and have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and collaborate with diverse stakeholders, including through public speaking.
