United Nations Development Programme Background The UN SDG Action Campaign is a special initiative of the UN Secretary-General hosted by the Executive Office of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and based in Bonn, Germany. The Campaign is mandated to CONVENE, CAMPAIGN and CATALYZE by accelerating SDG action. The Campaign's Advocacy for Change aims at systemic transformation by rethinking, recalibrating, and reimagining economies and societies so that they serve people and the planet, while inspiring SDG action and sending a message of hope and possibilities. Through compelling and creative SDG outreach and communications, the UN SDG Action Campaign serves UN Member States and the United Nations whilst bridging thinkers and doers from civil society, local governments, think tanks, the arts and culture, the media and the business world. It mobilizes individuals to champion the SDGs in homes, communities and beyond. At a moment of acute crisis in our world, the UN SDG Action Campaign seizes opportunities to rethink messaging, call to action and reorient policymaking towards the Goals. Within the above context, the UN SDG Action Campaign is offering an internship position to support the communications and advocacy efforts of the Campaign. Duties and Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Creative Communications Specialist, the incumbent is expected to deliver on the following scope of work: Provide communications support: Support the development of communications plans Support drafting announcements/ blog posts for UN SDG Action Campaign key initiatives such as the UN SDG Action Awards Support the organization and management of Trello Boards Collect footage on social media for highlights videos Support with captioning social media videos using Happy Scribe Assist in media monitoring and compiling reports on key campaign coverage and engagement metrics Conduct research on communications and digital trends, audience insights, and emerging platforms to inform social media strategies Help curate and organize photo and video archives, ensuring content is easily accessible for future campaigns Provide social media and graphic design support: Support creating monthly social media content calendars as well as social media scheduling and analytics using Hootsuite and Keyhole Support creating multimedia content, gifs and animations using Canva and Adobe Creative Suite Support in promoting Campaign brand awareness and advocacy priorities and programs on social media channels such as TikTok, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube Support in developing creative and fun video concepts, as well as edit videos suited for the TikTok and Instagram platforms to targeted audiences Map influencers and identify opportunities to co-create with them to promote UN campaigns Assist in community engagement efforts by responding to comments and messages across platforms Learning opportunities for the intern Experience working in an international organization and in a multicultural environment General understanding of the work and mission of the UN SDG Action Campaign Learn about the SDGs Hands-on experience with the preparation and implementation of communications and activities in a UN team, as well as social media outreach and liaison with partners from across constituencies and regions Required Skills and Experience Education: Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master's programme, or higher) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor's degree or equivalent) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program Experience: Experience in communications, content creation and social media applications such as Instagram, LinkedIn, X. Familiarity with the UN system in general is an asset Language: Proficiency in English Knowledge of one of the other five official languages of the UN (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian and Spanish) would be an asset Conditions: Intern will be given monthly stipend in accordance with the provisions of the UNDP Internship policy, which applicants should become familiar with prior to signing an UNDP Internship Agreement Form. Where an intern is financially supported by an institution, government or third party, UNDP will, subject to the rules of such institution, government or third party, pay the intern the difference, if any, between the external financial support provided and the applicable UNDP Stipend.
