The Chair of Optical Systems Technology TOS works closely with the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT to research new possibilities and techniques for the realisation of optical systems. For the surface finishing of components in batch sizes 1 to 10 using laser polishing, the process parameters must be optimised in a cost-effective and time-efficient manner. As the development of process parameters for laser polishing is complex, parameters must be developed in a target-orientated manner. A clearly recognisable strategy for process parameter development has so far only been considered to a limited extent in the state of the art. The work pursues two interrelated objectives. Firstly, a concept for the creation of strategies based on natural language is to be designed and implemented in order to enable the digitisation of strategies for the expert. The concept is also used to describe an algorithm for the development of process parameters to eliminate laser-induced roughness during laser polishing. The algorithm is then tested for effectiveness and efficiency against an existing data set.
What you will do
* You will design and realise the concept in Python
* You carry out a literature research, design and digitise a process strategy for the elimination of micro-roughness.
* You will test the process strategy on a well-founded data set of AISI H11 tool steel
What you bring to the table
* You are a Master's student in physics, mechanical engineering, materials science or a comparable degree programme and have a connection to software development.
* You are characterised by an independent and conscientious way of working
* Initial experience in the field of laser technology is desirable, but not a must
What you can expect
Team spirit: Creative, interdisciplinary environment with a motivated team, flat hierarchies and a ‘you’ culture
Workplace: Excellent machinery and equipment as well as first-class office facilities
Co-creation: Practice-oriented final thesis in an innovative applied research environment
♀️ Work-life balance: Benefit from flexible working hours on a basis of trust
➕ Advantages: Opportunity to benefit from exciting corporate benefits
Travel: Good transport links, parking spaces directly in front of the institute, an e-charging station and a multi-storey car park
The position is limited until the completion of the thesis
