Job Title: Head of Trust & Safety
As the inaugural Head of Trust & Safety within our Design, Marketing, & Content (DMC) business and tech function, you will define the strategy and vision for platform integrity at Zalando, shaping a safe and inspiring experience for millions of users and creators across 25 European markets. We are looking for a seasoned, innovative leader skilled at scaling both automated and manual safety mechanisms to safeguard users, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen Zalando’s reputation and public trust. This role requires a collaborative, cross-functional partner to Product, Engineering, and Content Performance teams, as well as an accomplished people leader ready to dive in and drive impactful change.
WHAT WE’D LOVE YOU TO DO (AND LOVE DOING):
1. Craft and implement a robust trust and safety strategy that aligns with business objectives and adheres to industry standards.
2. Provide strategic and inspirational leadership to a Trust & Safety team of policy and operations experts, establishing clear objectives and performance targets.
3. Oversee content moderation activities to ensure regulatory compliance and foster a secure, reputable community environment for all users, creators and partners.
4. Lead the development and evolution of trust and safety policies and operations, staying informed of emerging risks and updating them as needed.
5. Conduct in-depth risk assessments focused on user behaviour, content trends, and platform security vulnerabilities.
6. Collaborate closely with product, engineering, legal, content and customer support teams to embed trust and safety measures within product development and customer interactions.
7. Establish and implement incident and crisis response protocols to handle policy violations and trust and safety issues efficiently.
8. Conduct thorough post-incident reviews to identify improvements and prevent future incidents.
9. Ensure adherence to laws and regulations related to trust and safety, data privacy, and content moderation.
10. Advocate for the team’s needs at the highest levels of leadership and shape the direction of trust and safety at Zalando.
YOUR PROFILE:
1. You’re proud of your degree (Bachelor, Master, MBA) in political science, government, communications, law, or a related field, OR your analogous real-world experience.
2. You have 7+ years of relevant experience in policy development and operations within a large e-commerce or marketplace environment, including handling complex issues such as intellectual property, regulated goods, and regulatory compliance.
3. You have a demonstrated record of developing, implementing, and refining high-impact policies and processes, with deep knowledge of safety principles and advanced risk management practices.
4. You excel at identifying complex issues quickly, conducting rigorous analysis, and delivering data-driven, scalable policy solutions that align with business goals.
5. You bring advanced stakeholder engagement and advocacy skills, with a strong ability to build relationships, influence cross-functional partners, and represent Trust & Safety initiatives to senior leadership.
6. You thrive in fast-paced, constantly evolving settings, with a talent for managing multiple priorities, aligning resources, and achieving results under tight deadlines.
7. Your oral and written English is business fluent.
