Job ID: 40516 Ship Structure - Lifting Appliances Senior Specialist Lloyd’s Register Location : Hamburg, Germany What we’re looking for We are currently seeking a qualified structural engineer to conduct independent examinations and complex FEA calculations on large and heavy lift lifting appliances, as well as other types of lifting gear. A genuine interest in advanced calculation techniques, coupled with a pragmatic approach to their application, is highly desirable. The role will involve appraising lifting appliances, including floating and land-based heavy lift cranes, complex offshore lifting tools, spreader beams, elevators, pipe lay mission equipment (such as A&R structures and pipeline structures handling systems), and traveling work platforms. The design aspects must be evaluated according to the LR Code for Lifting Appliances in a Marine environment and/or other relevant international standards. The ideal candidates should possess the necessary competence, knowledge, and experience to perform these design appraisals. A strong background in structural engineering is essential, ideally supplemented by expertise in related machinery and control systems. Experience in project management, especially in serving international clients, will be highly valued. The Role : The key responsibility of the role is to examine and approve technical documents like drawings or reports to the requirements of the selected Codes or Standards. Coordinating design appraisal and certification of projects, working together with other international offices and different disciplines (e.g. structural, mechanical, electrical, and survey departments). Providing on-the-job training and guidance to colleagues. Act as point of contact for questions related to Lifting Appliances, for internal and external client. What you bring. Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering or Naval Architecture or equivalent and/or Chartered/Professional qualification and a member of a relevant professional institution; Relevant at least five years experience in Lifting Appliance structural design/ plan appraisal. Thorough knowledge on design principles/structural idealization /loadings of lifting appliances and a sound understanding of the governing design conditions and the rule/code requirements. Good experience in structural analysis (FEA) of lifting appliance structures and working knowledge on any prominently used FE software, preferably DLUBAL RFEM. Experience in the application of fatigue design Codes and Standards. Have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, to prioritise work and meet LR and Clients’ deadlines, and to work effectively under pressure. Good skill to conduct technical conversation with clients and maintain good relationships with client with client focus mind-set; Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work and to demonstrate effective interpersonal skills. Dutch would be considered a good additional qualification.
