About this Role We are looking for a skilled and passionate Technical Developer Documentation Specialist to lead the rcreation and management of comprehensive, inclusive, and user-friendly documentation for Ory's suite of identity and access management products. This role is crucial for making our products accessible to a diverse developer audience and ensuring that our documentation is clear, practical, and aligned with the latest best practices. Key Tasks and Deliverables Documentation Strategy and Structuring Implement and maintain the Diátaxis framework across all documentation, ensuring it meets the needs of developers with varied backgrounds and levels of experience. Regularly review and update the documentation to ensure it is accessible, easy to navigate, and free from jargon, making it approachable for all users, regardless of their prior technical experience. Content Creation and Maintenance Develop high-quality, clear, and concise documentation, including installation guides, configuration instructions, and API references. Create step-by-step tutorials and practical use cases that cater to a wide range of users, from beginners to advanced developers, with a focus on clear explanations and examples. Write How-To Guides that provide solutions to specific tasks, such as setting up secure authentication flows or scaling Ory services in various environments. Visual Documentation Enhancements Incorporate diagrams, flowcharts, and other visual aids to support different learning styles and make complex concepts more accessible. Work closely with designers to ensure that visuals are inclusive and representative, avoiding stereotypes and promoting diversity. Tooling Manage the versioning of documentation to keep it up-to-date with the latest product releases, ensuring that changes are clearly communicated and easy to follow. We use Docusaurus and GitHub. Collaborate with the engineering team to document new features and updates in a way that is easy to understand and implement. User Feedback and Collaboration Regularly incorporate feedback into documentation updates, prioritizing changes that improve clarity, accessibility, and usability. Security and Best Practices Documentation Write and maintain security-focused documentation that helps users understand and implement best practices, ensuring that they can deploy Ory services safely and securely. Provide clear, practical examples of how to secure applications using Ory’s tools, with a focus on making these concepts accessible to all developers. Search Optimization and Content Accessibility Enhance search functionality and content discoverability by using inclusive language and ensuring documentation is accessible to users with varying levels of technical expertise. Implement metadata, tags, and keywords that improve the visibility of content, making it easier for all users to find what they need. Minimum Requirements Technical Writing Expertise : Proven experience in creating clear, concise, and accessible technical documentation, especially for complex software systems. Language Proficiency: Native English speaker or C2 level proficiency in English, with excellent written communication skills. This is crucial for creating clear, precise, and professional documentation that meets the high standards expected by our global developer community. Programming Experience : Hands-on experience with programming languages and development environments to effectively write and test code snippets, and "Getting Started" guides. Familiarity with languages such as Go, Python, or JavaScript is a plus. Understanding of IAM Concepts: Knowledge of identity management, OAuth2, and other security concepts, with the ability to explain them in an inclusive and understandable manner. Tool Proficiency: Experience with documentation tools such as Docusaurus, React, and GitHub.
