Postdoc (f/m/d) in the Field of Material Chemistry or Electrochemistry Reference No.: CE 2024/23 In the Institute for Electrochemical Energy Storage, we focus on fundamental aspects of novel battery concepts like sulphur cathodes and lithiated silicon anodes. Our aim is to understand the crucial mechanisms that lead to their marked capacity fading. Our department has a strong expertise inoperando studies of battery systems, which is closely connected to our efforts to synthesize new carbon nanostructures as cathode materials for lithium-sulphur cells. Your Tasks Design and fabrication of (solid state) Li metal cells, electrochemical testing Using cryo-TEM to investigate Li metal electrodes and SEI Beamtime application at large facilities and investigating Li metal anodes and Li-electrolyte interfaces with operando synchrotron X-ray based spectro- / microscopy Work with internal / external colleagues on collaborative projects, e.g., Li metal anodes, Li-S batteries, and solid-state batteries Data processing and writing papers for scientific publications Presentation and discussion of research results at national and international conferences and meetings Your Profile Completed university studies in the field of materials science or chemistry Advanced knowledge on electrochemistry & considerable hands-on experimental skills of battery design, fabrication, and test Research experience in Li metal anodes and (solid state) batteries, e.g., Li-S batteries Strong skills in cryo-TEM for characterizing sensitive battery materials (e.g., Li and SEI) Experienced in beamtime application and advanced operando battery characterization based on synchrotron X-ray Familiar with other in-situ / operando physio-chemical characterization techniques, such as XPS, Raman, SEM, etc. Advanced knowledge on the interpretation of scientific results and presentation Good skills in research proposal writing, communication, and project management Good language skills in English Your Benefits at HZB Opportunity to contribute to the development of innovative materials and technological solutions for a climate-neutral future in cooperation with leading international researchers Commitment to diversity and sustainability through an inclusive working environment, promotion of diversity sensitivity andimplementation of sustainable and climate-neutral methods Career-enhancing networking opportunities and individual mentoring and support from theHZB Graduate Centre andHZB Postdoc Office Attractive remuneration through payment according to TVöD Bund 30 days holiday/year Extensive additional benefits, such as company pension plan (VBL), subsidy for public transport (Deutschlandticket Job) and company sports programmes Good work-life balance through counselling services on family and career and flexible working time models: Flexitime, part-time, hybrid working And a team that is looking forward to meeting you Fixed term contract for 24 months. The salary is based on the Collective Agreement for the German Public Service (TVöD-Bund).
