As a Risk Coordinator at EMBL, you will play a key role in developing and implementing risk management strategies and culture to support the organization’s mission. Your responsibilities will include: Supporting the development of a Risk Management (RM) Strategy, establishing RM governance structures, and creating a Risk Management Policy. Designing, promoting, and improving a Pan-EMBL Risk Management process and related tools to assess and manage strategic and operational risks. Collaborating across EMBL departments and EMBL leadership to identify, analyze, and mitigate risks, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. Engaging with various stakeholders to promote a risk-aware culture and ensure compliance with best practices. Developing and maintaining a Pan-EMBL risk register, as well as supporting departmental and cross-functional operational risk registers. Organizing and delivering training and awareness programs to embed risk management principles across EMBL. Coordinating and preparing risk reporting (e.g., quarterly or half-yearly) for senior management and governance bodies. Assisting in the development and maintenance of Disaster Recovery Plans (e.g., for laboratory and infrastructure) and a Crisis Management Plan. You Have Proven experience in developing, implementing, and managing risk processes in a complex and dynamic environment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with diverse internal, e.g. technical, legal, financial, and operational functions as well as external stakeholders. A proactive approach to risk management, continuously evaluating and improving risk mitigation strategies and control environments. The ability to adapt and support teams through change in a fast-moving organizational landscape. A solution-focused mindset, using creative problem-solving to influence decision-making. You May Also Have Familiarity with IT tools supporting risk management and their implementation. Experience with international risk management frameworks such as ISO 31000, COSO ERM, or NIST Cybersecurity Framework. Fluency in English (required); knowledge of German or other languages would be an asset. As part of the COO team, you will report directly to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), working closely with key departments to ensure a robust risk management framework across EMBL.
