Salary Range: > 140 000 EUR/Year
1. Job Purpose
The Director Battery Development (m/f/d) plays a critical role in the strategic and technical leadership of all battery pack development activities for an innovative large-scale electric aircraft project.
The goal is to develop high-performance, aviation-grade battery technology to help realize the company’s vision of zero-emission air mobility.
5. Key Responsibilities
Responsibility 1: Technical Leadership & Innovation Management
* Full ownership and execution of battery development programs in alignment with corporate objectives.
* Lead all technical aspects including material selection, cell chemistry, battery pack design, and system integration.
* Stay ahead of technological trends in battery research and implement innovations early.
* Responsible for project budget, timelines, and risk management.
Responsibilities 2: Partnership & Stakeholder Management
* Select and manage strategic supplier partnerships, particularly for battery cells and materials.
* Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams (e.g., design, engineering, manufacturing).
* Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and performance standards.
* Oversee technical documentation including specifications, testing protocols, and validation reports.
Responsibilities 3: Leadership & Team Building
* Build and lead a high-performing team of engineers and technicians.
* Foster a collaborative and innovation-friendly work environment.
* Represent the company as a thought leader in battery technology at industry events and in publications.
6. Qualifications
Education:
* Master’s or Ph.D. in Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field – specialization in battery technologies preferred.
Experience:
* 10–15 years of experience in battery development and/or program management.
* At least 5 years in a leadership role managing technical teams or development programs.
* English Language C1
Certification (optional):
* Project management certifications (e.g., PMP) are a plus.

Technical Skills:
* Extensive experience in battery cell and pack design, testing, and validation.
* Knowledge of lithium-ion, solid-state, or other advanced energy storage systems.
* Expertise in BMS (Battery Management Systems), safety technologies, and regulations.
* Experience in failure analysis, life cycle studies, and battery degradation models.
* Familiar with manufacturing processes and quality assurance in battery systems.
Soft Skills:
* Strong leadership and communication abilities.
* Strategic and analytical thinking with a results-driven mindset.
* Capable of explaining complex technical concepts to various stakeholders.
* Proficient in managing multiple projects simultaneously.
