Hauptaufgaben Performs a variety of store worker duties involved in the handling, marking, preparing, and maintaining of stock levels of grocery items. Usually works in an assigned department within the store (e.g., grocery, produce, meat, etc.), but may also perform rotational assignments within all departments. Maintains adequate stock of perishable and non-perishable subsistence items. Replenishes depleted stock with incoming items or by obtaining stock from storage area(s) and transporting to shelving or display areas. Uses cart and manual or electric pallet jacks to move items. Places computer-generated selling price labels on shelves for the commissary patron to see and performs price verification. Scans product code and compares price with label price. Brings any discrepancies to the attention of management and, as instructed, makes any changes necessary to ensure accuracy of pricing. Arranges stock on shelves or in displays in a neat and orderly manner, rotating stock on the basis of age and freshness. Constantly checks for damaged, spoiled, or out-of-date merchandise and refers items to supervisor and/or food inspector. May assist in unloading incoming shipments and in checking stock. Uses hand held terminals to scan UPC codes verifying items are authorized and entering quantities received into the hand held terminal. Prints reports and verifies totals with delivery tickets informing management of discrepancies. Moves stock into the appropriate temporary or permanent storage locations. Using proper stock rotation, stacks containers in groups by commodity, brand, and size. Participates in inventories. Responds courteously and professionally to routine patron questions providing proper location and prices of specific items and determining availability of requested items. Consults supervisor or other management official when patron issues cannot be resolved. Ensures produce and/or meat cases are adequately stocked and maintained. Visually inspects meat and/or produce for signs of deterioration, discolorment, damage, and/or leakage and reports any findings to a higher graded department employee or to a management official. May review temperature control devices and record temperatures on meat cases, dairy cases, freezers, display cases, cooling bins, chill cases, and any other temperature controlled areas. Reports discrepancies to the supervisor or to another management official. Breaks down cases as they are emptied and removes cardboard and garbage from store. Loads cardboard into baler and activates machine. Assists in tying off completed bales of cardboard and removes from baler. Separates recyclable plastic and collects in semi-transparent plastic bags or places in a holding device such as a baler. Types of plastic eligible for recycling may include case topper plastic, shrink-wrap removed from cases or pallets, and consumer plastic shopping bags. Cleans up broken and/or spilled items. Cleans any item(s) in display cases that require cleaning prior to stocking. Cleans shelves and display areas on a regular basis. Performs all sanitation tasks in accordance with applicable directives. Ensures all merchandise, supplies, and equipment are properly accounted for and secured from spoilage, damage, and possible theft. Follows proper safety procedures and wears appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing in the performance of duties. Picks curbside orders. Retrieves electronic orders from a desktop computer utilizing designated software; uses a hand-held scanner and scanning software to upload orders and picks orders for the customer within established time constraints. Bags items, making changes to weight and number of items, as required. Contacts the customer, as needed, regarding substitutions or item availability. Work involves picking multiple orders simultaneously submitted by multiple customers, integrated inventory and point of sales processing. Properly identifies orders with patrons' name and places in the staging area. Upon arrival of the customer, retrieves the order from the staging area, transports to the customer's vehicle, checks and scan the customer's ID card, completes the checkout process, and loads the order into the customer's vehicle.
