Columbus is the European Module part of the International Space Station (ISS). This module is monitored and controlled by the ESA Flight Control Team (FCT). The Flight Control team includes the Flight Director (FD) who will be managing the on-going Operations, sitting in the ESA's Columbus Control Centre (Col-CC), located at the German Aerospace Center (DLR) facility in Oberpfaffenhofen, Germany.
WHAT DO WE NEED IN OUR TEAM?
The Columbus Flight Director Office is responsible for the European Segment of the International Space Station (ISS), assuring crew and vehicle safety, as well as the mission success. The Columbus Flight Director will lead the Columbus Flight Control Team in the planning and execution of real-time ISS operations, in cooperation with NASA and the International Partners of the ISS Program.
The required knowledge for this role includes:
1. Engineering degree or equivalent University degree (MsC or equivalent)
2. Willingness to work shift for 24/7 support
3. Ability to apply logical thought processes in analysing and troubleshooting complex systems
4. Ability to work under stress
5. Good team working and communication skills
6. Fluency in written and spoken English
7. Demonstrable motivation and interest in Human Space Flight/Space Operations
8. Demonstrable decision-making and leadership skills
Valuable knowledge for this role:
9. Previous experience/certification in Columbus operations
