The University Hospital Essen offers first class medical services in the Ruhr metropolis. Every year, 225.000 patients are treated in 30 clinics, 27 institutes and specialized centers. The over 8.000 employees offer medical care with state-of-the art diagnostics and therapies, which meet highest international standards. Patient care is connected with basic and translational research at an internationally competitive level. The Preclinical Theranostics team focuses on theranostic approaches with the goal to deliver new insights into tumor biology, heterogeneity and metabolism and their relationship and relevance to functional imaging and biomarker-driven treatments in nuclear medicine. Radiopharmaceutical therapy (RT) is a promising treatment option for various cancers. However, outcomes are rarely curative. We address this clinical need by investigating new radiopharmaceutical modalities and the mechanisms underlying the response / resistance to RPT. To improve RPT outcomes, we establish phenotypic (imaging) biomarkers and develop rationally chosen, translatable RPT-based combination therapies. The project includes theinvestigation of radiopharmaceutical cancer therapy and its radiobiological effects. The investigation of radiopharmaceutical cancer therapy and its radiobiologicaleffects In vitro and in vivo studies (PET/SPECT/CT imaging, therapy), molecular biological and proteinbiochemical methods, immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, omics analyses (e.g.,RNAseq), and bioinformatic data analysis.
