Topic: Inflammation, microenvironment and lipid metabolism in pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer - determining disease prognosis and offering treatment opportunities.
Project description: In pancreatitis understanding and targeting inflammatory mechanisms and fibrosis to establish specific treatment options is the ultimate goal. In our work we focus on the fibroinflammatory crosstalk and its impact on disease course and translational endpoints. In pancreatic cancer the role of the tumor microenvironment for metastasis formation, treatment resistance and targeted therapy is the focus of our research group. For both diseases the sphingolipid metabolism plays a crucial role and bridges findings from patient cohorts to wet lab experiments.
As two of our medical scientist (PhD) group leaders have been promoted to independent professorship positions, we are seeking their successors. Our group is well funded by the German Cancer Aid, the DFG, the BMBF and the Wilhelm-Sander-Stiftung. In the last five years we have published 117 peer-reviewed articles with 4901 citations and an average of 21.5 per item. Applicats must hold a PhD in a biology, biochemistry or bioinformatics or any other related life science.
A strong interest in computational biology is essential. Candidates should have experience in molecular biology techniques and multi-omics technologies.
Experience with animal models as well as a strong interest and background knowledge in basic and translational research is required.
The applicant should be comfortable in a collaborative environment with many interactions with clinicians and medical scientists.
A previous postdoc position, organisational skills and leadership experience are advantageous.
We expect applicants to supervise medical, Master of Science, and PhD students.
