VN 25/03 Digital Solution Coordinator The post of Digital Solution Coordinator resides within the Digital Solutions and Satellite Applications Facilities Division (DSA) in EUMETSAT. The mission of DSA is to provide a state-of-the-art data service portfolio building on cloud computing technologies, together with managing the Satellite Application Facilities (SAF) Network and their evolution by building strong synergies between both activities. This includes providing digital solutions to the organisation, Member States and Users via a leading involvement in EUMETSAT and third-party initiatives. In this context DSA is responsible for managing the Destination Earth 3rd Party Programme and ensures the delivery of the commitments expressed in the related contribution agreement between EUMETSAT and the European Commission. Within DSA the postholder works directly with the DSA Digital Solution Manager and reports to the Head of DSA. He/She is the main focal point for the overall technical engagement towards technical and managerial peers at EUMETSAT Member States, the European Commission as well as with partner organisations in the context of establishing digital solutions. He/She will be a key contributor to the definition, management and implementation of the emerging new strategy on digital solutions which will result in an evolution of the EUMETSAT data and cloud services. The role requires a certain amount of travel within Europe, frequent interaction with other agencies and the European Commission, International fora and working groups. Duties Contribute to the definition and development of the emerging new strategy on digital solutions for EUMETSAT; Act as the EUMETSAT representative on collaborations with our Member States and NHMSs at various levels (managerial and technical) on the topic of digital solutions, organising and leading corresponding workshops and conferences. Contribute to the development of synergy and coherent strategy between the various big-data and cloud initiatives in EUMETSAT, namely Big Data Services (BDS), European Weather Cloud (EWC), Copernicus and Destination Earth; Identify and trade-off new applicable technologies and service concepts and coordinate their integration into the overall data services evolution; Maintain an overview, and establish coordination, of the assessment of technology trends in view of their impact on the organization; Contribute to the annual budget exercise and management of industrial support contracts within the context of DSA division. LOCATION Darmstadt, Germany QUALIFICATIONS A university degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline such as Informatics, Computing, Mathematics or Physics. LANGUAGES Candidates must be able to work effectively in English and have some knowledge of French. DEADLINE 24 February 2025 Skills and Experience A minimum of 5 years’ experience directly working in international, highly operational and time critical environments, preferably directly related to provision of data services or cloud services A high level of awareness in modern digital technologies and their application fields; Strong ability of impact based strategic thinking; Direct experience in leading either the migration and / or evolution of complex systems and services; Very strong technical background in ideally one or more fields of: digital solutions, cloud based solutions and data services; Very strong ability to develop and communicate business cases, technological solutions and roadmaps; Innovation oriented mindset and opportunities-based thinking combined with strong analytical skills in establishing technical but also strategic trade-offs: Direct experience in working within an international context, the European Commission and / or activities under the funding of the EC; Excellent interpersonal, team working and communication (both oral and in writing) skills, with a proven ability to apply these to working within and across international and diverse teams. Employment Conditions The initial contract will be of 4 years’ duration, with subsequent 5 year contracts being awarded thereafter, subject to individual performance and organisation requirements. There is no limit to the amount of follow-up contracts a staff member can receive up to the EUMETSAT retirement age of 63 and there are certainly opportunities to establish a long career perspective at EUMETSAT. This post is graded A2/A4 on the EUMETSAT salary scales. The minimum basic salary for this post is EURO 7,340 per month (net of internal tax but excluding pension contribution and insurances) which may be negotiable on the basis of skills and experience. The salary scale provides for increments on the anniversary of taking up employment, and scales are reviewed by the EUMETSAT Council with effect from 1 January each year.
