The University Hospital Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) operates the Core Facility “Protein Production” (PPCF) at the Center for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB). Focusing on infection and systems biology, the goal of the CSSB is to unravel the mechanisms underlying pathogenic processes in order to find new treatment options against bacterial and viral pathogens. For this purpose, the CSSB offers a unique working environment with state-of-the-art laboratory workstations and a stimulating international scientific community in the institute. The CSSB also has access to the globally unique research infrastructure on the DESY Campus, Hamburg Bahrenfeld.
In cooperation with the Core Facility “Sample Preparation and Characterization”, which is also located at the CSSB, we are looking for a (medical) technical assistant for the Core Facility “Protein Production” (PPCF) at the Center for Structural Systems Biology (CSSB) to develop cross-facility workflows:
Your tasks:
Independent execution of molecular biology and biochemical work such as PCR, RNA and DNA isolations, cloning, mutagenesis, SDS PAGE and western blots
Independent implementation of recombinant gene expression experiments in pro- and eukaryotic systems (if necessary also under S2 conditions)
Chromatographic purification of proteins
Characterization of purified proteins and protein interaction studies using biophysical methods
Documentation and database management
Drafting Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
Supporting guests and users of the service facility
Completed vocational training as a biological, chemical, veterinary or medical technical assistant (BTA/CTA/VMTA/MTLA), as a medical technologist (MTL or MTV) or as a biology laboratory technician. Also possible is a completed university degree: Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Molecular Life Science, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Technical and Applied Biology or a completed scientific university degree: Biology, Molecular Life Science (*A classification in EG 9b requires two years of active professional experience (at least 30 hours/week) in a laboratory with BTA tasks/activities for the above-mentioned (scientific) university degrees. Without this professional experience, the applicant will be classified in EG 9a.)
Experience in culturing E.coli and mammalian cells
Experience in molecular biological technologies and protein chemistry
Experience in biophysical characterisation would be appretiated
Interest in scientific issues and personal development
Ability to work independently and flexibly
Conversational English
Ability to cooperate and work in a team, friendly and service-oriented demeanor in an intercultural environment
