The three sites in Dresden and Hermsdorf (Thuringia) form the largest ceramics research institute in Europe. As a research and technology service provider, we develop modern high-performance ceramic materials, industry-relevant manufacturing processes and prototype components and systems in complete production lines up to pilot scale. Our portfolio also includes expertise in materials diagnostics and testing.
We are looking for you as a Research Assistant/ PostDoc at the IKTS site in Forchheim (Bavaria). The research work of the department focuses on the development of workflows for the correlative and multimodal microscopic and spectroscopic characterisation of complex samples from the fields of energy, semiconductor devices and bio-medical tissues. This includes batteries, nanoscale composites, hierarchical materials with structural elements from macro to nano such as bone, heterogeneous thin-film structures e.g. for photovoltaics or cross-scale composites e.g. for energy-efficient construction or hydrogen technology. Electron and X-ray microscopic analyses as well as optical spectroscopy are an essential part of the research department. The development of projects offers the opportunity to play an active role in shaping future research priorities and places high demands on scientific excellence and planning, sometimes also entrepreneurial thinking in an international environment and a high degree of independence.
What you will do
* You will develop and manage projects in coordination with your group and/or department head in the strategic research field of „Correlative Spectroscopy” and help to implement IKTS market and research strategies in practice.
* You will actively support the acquisition of industrial contract research and the initiation of national and international research projects in an academic context and with industry.
* You will expand your existing networks with customers and scientists in the field of multimodal analytics as well as energy, semiconductor and bio-medical research and contribute to the positioning of IKTS in these fields in the national and international environment.
* You will supervise student assistants and provide them with experimental guidance.
What you bring to the table
* You have a scientific university degree (preferably with a PhD) in chemistry, physics, materials science or a comparable qualification.
* You combine scientific excellence and entrepreneurial thinking.
* You have outstanding expertise in the latest spectroscopy techniques and data analysis.
* You have strong experience and enjoy co-developing innovative technology projects and technical solutions.
* You are willing to supervise students and technical staff.
* You have already been involved in the acquisition of projects (third-party funding bodies and industry) and have gained initial experience in project management, for example at the level of work packages.
* You have experience in the characterisation of complex nanoarchitectures and thin films for applications in energy research, electronics, photonics and sensor technology.
* You communicate clearly and authoritatively with customers and partners in an interdisciplinary and international environment.
* You are open to international business travel and are fluent in English.
* You are a real team player and enjoy working in interdisciplinary groups and project networks.
This is an advantage:
* Industry knowledge in correlative spectroscopy and image processing as well as in energy research, e.g. in battery technology, hydrogen technology or photovoltaics
* Understanding of and interest in modelling and simulations
* Assertiveness, methodical and systematic approach, commitment and ability to lead tasks
* Experience in setting up and commissioning complex laboratory infrastructures
What you can expect
We offer you an exciting and interdisciplinary working environment with responsibility and room for your ideas. You will be part of a dynamic team and have the opportunity to actively support the strategic development of Fraunhofer IKTS.
