We are looking for a payroll specialist to join us at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany. In this role, you will be part of the EMBL Finance Team, working closely with the HR department as well as the ERP team. This role is a support / back up position to the Payroll Manager in the course of a changeover of the ERP system. Your role Payroll Execution of pre-payroll, payroll and post-payroll activity covering German, UK, Italian, French and Spanish This includes posting salaries, providing the bank file, preparing the payslips, the month end consolidation and troubleshooting. Execution of monthly end of contract Contact person for payroll related problems. Liaison with management and external bodies on matters relating specifically to payroll. Performing of annual salary statements for Germany, UK, Italy, France and Spain Updating salary rates, allowances and all other payroll-related data in the SAP Development system and associated files on a yearly basis. Calculation and updating of internal Maintain payroll reference manual. Reconciliation of monthly General Ledger salary Social Security Updating SAP for changes in EMBL's internal social security and insurance schemes: pension, health insurance, unemployment Updating SAP for changes in German, UK and French social security Timesheets Management of the entire timesheet process at EMBL, including control and posting of the monthly timesheet bookings and key contact person for all Finance timesheet related issues. Other duties Running future cost planning tool on a by-weekly basis and updating Inflation rates on a quarterly basis. Close cooperation with external consultants regarding payroll and timesheets Supporting activities during the introduction of the new ERP system for the areas including payroll, timesheets and future cost planning tool Reporting and Project Work Establishment and management of the plan for the optimisation of payroll processes (to ensure elimination of paper based system and duplication of data handing as far as is possible) Preparation of ad hoc reports as required. Support of financial projects on an ad-hoc basis You have Relevant education to university level and/or demonstrated equivalent qualification Comprehensive proven knowledge of SAP payroll module, in particular for Germany Demonstrated payroll management experience Ability to understand and apply internal rules and regulations, plus external national guidelines into compliant pay Demonstrated organisational ability and success in meeting deadlines and multi-tasking Ability to create, review and supply policies Problem solving, numerical and analytical Good interpersonal skills incl. strong client oriented attitude Excellent written and spoken English and German communication skills Ability to work flexibly and in a multi-national environment You may also have Experience with the French and British SAP payroll versions is a major advantage Previous experience in a similiar environment is advantageous Knowledge of French is also an advantage Contract length: 3 years (project related) Salary: Grade 4 or 5; depending on qualifications and experience Why join us Do something meaningful At EMBL-EBI you can apply your talent and passion to accelerate science and tackle some of humankind's greatest challenges.
