Your role
As a Data Science Expert, you will:
1. oversee the day-to-day management, receipt, processing and quality checking of micro data, and compile and disseminate the results;
2. support the development, integration and maintenance of the respective statistical data systems to increase capacity, performance and automation – which includes scoping, prototyping and testing new IT-system application releases for large-scale datasets;
3. maintain documentation, database algorithms and end-to-end data flows from a business perspective;
4. contribute to further standardising and integrating the different statistical systems;
5. mine existing data and foster the efficient generation of new statistical output products by linking, filtering and enriching existing data to serve user needs at short notice – which includes using quantitative statistical methods to exploit all available data as well as AI tools and frameworks;
6. design and develop new statistical frameworks and datasets with colleagues in DG/S and other business areas and users at the ECB, national central banks, national competent authorities (e.g. banking supervisors), the International Monetary Fund and other stakeholders;
7. prepare notes for meetings of the ESCB Statistics Committee and its working groups, and support other colleagues in DG/S in preparing press releases and briefing material for members of the Executive Board, the Supervisory Board and the Governing Council.

Qualifications, experience and skills
Essential:
8. a master’s degree or equivalent in data science, finance, statistics, economics, mathematics, computer science or another relevant field (see for details on degree equivalences);
9. in addition to the above, a minimum of three years’ professional experience, in statistics, economics, financial markets, IT or other similar areas;
10. experience in scoping, developing, testing and operating large-scale micro data systems;
11. analytical and quantitative skills, with experience in large-scale micro data analysis and prioritised quality assurance, and the ability to define and apply data concepts, procedures and methodologies;
12. programming skills and experience in using statistical software and other IT applications, such as SQL, R and Python, and visualisation tools (Tableau, Power BI or R-Shiny);
13. an advanced (C1) command of English and an intermediate (B1) command of at least one other official language of the EU, according to the .
Desired:
14. an understanding of the latest database technologies and strategies to be able to inform discussions with the IT function on enhancing support for different usage models;
15. an ability to explain complex technical issues in simple, non-technical language to different stakeholders and draft appropriate documentation, with the aim of encouraging and motivating less technical colleagues to get involved in the world of large-scale micro data.
