Hauptaufgaben
Serves as the Lead Language Assistant and fulfills the role of advisor, consultant, and interpreter to the Provost Marshal and Staff on German-American law enforcement and associated activities. Provides expertise and guidance on matters of legal interest, authority, or sovereignty to both Military and German authorities involved in the execution of their official duties. Assists and advises US Forces personnel and their dependents on issues that arise between them and German law, ensuring effective communication and understanding. Offers explanations of German legal precedents and assists individuals in accessing appropriate legal offices for further assistance. Shares information with Commanders and First Sergeants regarding incidents involving US and local national (LN) personnel. Conducts thorough investigations, gathering additional information by personally contacting military personnel or relevant authorities. Assesses specific problems, considering various factors on both sides, and employs discretion and diplomacy to recommend negotiation strategies for anticipated actions. Engages in discussions that interest both parties, providing insights into intentions, attitudes, thoughts, customs, conceptions, and activities to foster mutual understanding. Prepares detailed reports, statistics, and analysis on language assistance activities, incidents, and trends to support decision-making and resource allocation. Conducts regular assessments and evaluations to maintain and improve the quality of language assistance services provided by the team. Oversees and tracks complex cases, ensuring proper documentation, analysis, and timely resolution. Demonstrates leadership skills by providing guidance, mentorship, and oversight to a team of language assistants and other personnel.
Serves as the lead Language Assistant, overseeing a team of four to eight (4-8) subordinate Language Assistants. Plans, schedules, distributes and coordinates assignments received from Supervisor ensuring efficient workflow, timely accomplishment of the assigned workload, and assure that each employee has enough work to keep busy. Makes day- to- day adjustments in accordance with established priorities. Prepares and issues clear written instructions on work procedures, setting performance requirements for the team. Reviews the work of subordinates to assess accuracy and adequacy, status and progress. Conducts on-the-job training for Language Assistants and nominates employees for relevant training programs to enhance their skills and knowledge. Approves leave for a few hours or for emergencies. Resolves simple, informal complaints of employees and refer others to supervisor. Reports to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems; and provides information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
Performs interpretation tasks from German into English and vice versa. Provides interpretation support during interrogations conducted by US Investigators, Military Policemen, and German Police Officers, ensuring accurate understanding of questions and their intended meaning. Utilizes idiomatic expressions to rephrase inquiries in order to prevent false or ambiguous rendition of statements. May also be required to provide interpretation services at court proceedings or other hearings. Additionally, carries out translation duties from German into English and vice versa. Translates a variety of documents, such as police reports, medical reports, estimates, damages and repairs, and other quasi-legal and administrative documents, demonstrating a strong command of both the English and German languages and the ability to express ideas clearly in both languages.

E&T Level I: 2 years of creditable experience as defined in A below PLUS 3 years of experience as defined in B below.
Current employees who do not meet E&T Level I and who are not in the same or similar occupation must have 2 additional years of creditable experience as described in A below.
E&T Level II: 1 years of creditable experience as defined in A below PLUS 3 years of experience as defined in B below.
E&T Level III: 2 years of creditable experience as defined in B below.
E&T Level IV: 1 year of creditable experience as defined in B below.
E&T Level V: No additional experience required.
Current employees who have served one year in the same or similar occupation are qualified for the next higher grade.
Experience A: Included clerical work in an office or store, working with computers, bookkeeping, making and recording inventories, telephone marketing, arranging for events or as a cashier, etc.
Experience B: Experience in the same or similar line of work as the job for which considered. The experience must demonstrate that the applicant possesses the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required in the position. The predominant experience must have been gained at a comparable level of difficulty to the position to be filled. The amount of the higher level experience must be in a reasonable relation to the required total number of years.

LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY LEVEL:
English Language Proficiency Level AND German Language Proficiency Level C2 required.
