There is a professorship(W2) in
Biology, especially Immunology and Cell Biology
in the Natural Sciences department at the Rheinbach campus available from 01. March 2026.
The contract is permanent.
The successful applicant will
1. provide courses in the area of Immunology and Cell Biology in its entirety, including the innate and adaptive immune system, of the department in German and English
2. carry out research and development projects, source and manage third-party-funded projects and participate in science transfer
3. support domestic, international and interdisciplinary collaboration with academic, business and societal institutions
4. actively engage in the university’s system of academic autonomy
5. contribute to implementing the University Development Plan, in particular with regard to sustainability targets
6. conduct applied and knowledge-oriented research projects on the molecular mechanisms and modulation of innate immunity
7. use modern cell culture models, e.g. 3D organoids, or invertebrate animal models in biomedical science in teaching and research
8. network their research activities within the university, in particular through participation in university institutes and collaboration in existing research networks and in the development of further consortia
The successful applicant should
9. meet the employment requirements set out in Section 36 of the Nordrhein-Westfalen Hochschulgesetz
10. be prepared and able to provide courses in German and English
11. be willing to help establish and develop our study programmes and assist in introducing innovative digital teaching formats on an ongoing basis
12. be willing to take gender and diversity as well as sustainability into account as quality criteria in the areas of teaching, research and knowledge transfer
13. have theoretical and practical knowledge in Immunology in its entirety, including the innate and adaptive immune system, as well as in modern cell culture techniques and models, and didactic skills in conveying the teaching content
14. work on a current knowledge- and application-oriented research field on the molecular mechanisms and the modulation of immunity in a biomedical context
15. have experience in national or international cooperation in interdisciplinary research projects or networks
In addition, experience in teaching at a university or comparable institution, experience in developing new teaching concepts and content, and experience in supervising bachelor’s and master’s students is desirable. Previous experience in acquiring third-party funding for research and development projects and a good network within the German and international research community is an advantage. Furthermore, you have international experience, for example through a stay abroad, and experience in guiding and supervising Bachelor's/Master's students and doctoral candidates. You have strong communication skills and are willing to collaborate across disciplines.
