We are seeking a Director of Internal Audit to elevate our internal audit function. In this role, you will conduct risk-oriented and process-independent assessments of the effectiveness and appropriateness of our risk management and internal control systems, as well as the appropriateness of all activities and processes, whether in-house or outsourced. Primary Responsibilities: Department Management: Oversee the Internal Audit department and the internal audit team. Activity Coordination: Coordinate all internal audit activities for N26, including those involving external contractors (Audit Executive). Audit Planning: Develop and annually update a comprehensive, risk-oriented audit plan. Audit Execution: Conduct audits of all N26 activities and processes, including outsourced ones, at appropriate intervals. Audits of subsidiaries should generally be completed within three years, potentially with the assistance of third-party service providers. Result Communication: Communicate audit findings to operational units. Report Preparation: Prepare and submit written reports on each audit to the relevant members of the management board. Quarterly Reporting: Write and submit quarterly reports on completed audits to the management board and supervisory board. Frequent Reporting: Regularly update the supervisory board/audit committee. External Representation: Represent N26 at the CCAG e.V. Rights, Competence, and Authority: The internal audit function will have complete and unrestricted access to all necessary information, documentation, and IT systems to perform its tasks. This access will be provided promptly. The internal audit function will also be informed of any relevant instructions and decisions from the management board, as well as any material changes to the risk management system. Experience: Auditing Standards: Deep knowledge of generally accepted auditing standards. Professional Experience: At least 10 years of experience as an Internal Auditor in a comparable role within an international company in a regulated environment, preferably in a bank or other financial institution. Regulatory Interaction: Extensive experience in dealing with regulators and authorities is a plus. Leadership: At least 4 years of leadership experience with a track record of managing and developing audit teams Process Understanding: A deep understanding of processes and expertise in online banking and retail products. Legal Insight: Familiarity with banking laws and a willingness to learn local banking laws, standard banking requirements, and banking IT systems. Certification: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA), or other relevant professional certification Skills & Traits: Language Skills: Excellent proficiency in English, fluency in German highly preferred Additional European languages are a plus. Practical Approach: A hands-on mentality and a commitment to finding solutions that support customers and the market.
