Context Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission (CoM) and direct supervision of the Media and Communications Coordinator, and in close collaboration with the relevant Departments in HQ and Regional Office, the incumbent will be responsible for the following activities: Responsibilities Support the supervisor in carrying out all activities related to public relations and communications; Manage IOM Germany’s social media channels and website; Draft information and outreach material for external communications - to beneficiaries as well as the media and the general public - and for internal communications (e.g. newsletters) in coordination with project managers where necessary; Support the development and distribution of organizational and project-related publications, reports, and materials to relevant stakeholders; Draft and prepare media briefings and press releases and support the elaboration and coordination of official lines relevant to the German context. In collaboration with the supervisor, represents IOM in German media such as background talks, interviews, etc.; Support in maintaining effective working relationships with media representatives and press departments of donors, counterparts and partners including public and private organizations, NGOs; Perform general press monitoring of references to IOM and developments and trends in the field of migration; Prepare regular overviews to be visualized and shared internally; and, Performs any other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education University degree in Political or Social Sciences, International Relations, Media and Communications Studies, Journalism, Creative Writing, German Philology/German Studies, or a related field from an accredited academic institution, with a least three years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles; or, Completed High School degree from an accredited academic institution, with at least five years of relevant professional experience, preferably in similar roles. Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database. Experience Working experience in the field of media and communications; Experience in media engagement: writing press notes, organizing press briefings, handling press requests, coordinating and compiling background information for journalists Demonstrated expertise in producing journalistic content, such as articles, press releases, or human-interest stories, interviews, preferably with published samples. Experience with coordinating with teams for preparing textual and multimedia content; Familiarity with communications tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) and CMS platforms. Experience in visual storytelling, including basic graphic design and video editing, is an asset. Working knowledge of event planning and promotion is an advantage; Skills Strong communication skills including experience related to media and communication; Strong organizational skills, with an ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines; Exceptional writing skills in German and English, with an ability to convey complex topics in a clear and relatable manner; Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as Outlook is required. Languages Required: Fluency in English and German (oral and written) Desirable: Knowledge of another official IOM language (French, Spanish) is an advantage IOM’s official languages are English, French and Spanish.
