Business Development Director - Defence, Germany

The role:
The Australian Government aims to build a more sustainable and globally competitive defence industry to support Australia’s defence capability needs. We are seeking applications for a Business Development Director to support Austrade’s work to develop commercial export opportunities for Australian defence businesses in Europe.
The Business Development Director will work with the Australian Department of Defence (Defence) to contribute to whole of government defence initiatives and implement agreed strategic priorities and activities.
The occupant of this position will work with and support senior Austrade and Defence staff to identify, develop and promote trade opportunities for Australian companies in the defence and security sectors within Europe. Austrade is flexible on the work location within Germany for the right candidate, depending on operational requirements and business needs.
Duties include:
* Provide services to Australian businesses including advice on market conditions, market entry strategies and regulatory environments, identifying potential customers and partners, and conduct market research.
* Supporting Australian companies with business-to-business matching at Team Defence Australia events and other defence missions and tradeshows.
* Identify market trends and develop business opportunities for Australian companies operating in land, air and maritime domains.
* Contribute to the development of multi-year defence industry engagement campaigns and initiatives and work with senior Austrade and Defence staff to develop an annual Business Plan.
* Supporting global defence primes and their suppliers in their Australian investment plans, in accordance with the agreed Business Plan.
* Manage and develop productive senior level business, industry and government networks within the defence and security sectors.
* Facilitate incoming delegations, in collaboration with Austrade staff and Defence personnel.
* Prepare and deliver country briefings for incoming delegations.
* Assist with planning and coordinating ministerial visits, targeted inbound and outbound trade missions.
* Working closely with Austrade, Embassy and Defence staff at Post and in Australia to foster a collaborative relationship, to achieve mutually agreed objectives.
* Actively apply Austrade business practices and maintain accuracy of information in all Austrade Business Systems to deliver accurate and timely reporting and effective relationship management.
* Contribute to knowledge creation within Austrade and Defence, by adopting information practices, sharing knowledge and information and by embracing best practice in securing business development opportunities.
* Work collaboratively within the Austrade network to contribute to service delivery and achieve desired outcomes, while upholding the Australian Public Service (APS) Values, Employment Principles and Code of Conduct and Work Health & Safety (WHS) principles.
Eligibility:
To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:
* Work Authorisation: to be eligible for employment with Austrade in Germany, candidates must be legally authorised to live and work in Germany at the time of appointment.
* Language: the successful candidate must be a highly motivated team member, fluent in written and spoken English and German.
* Security Clearance: the successful applicant must be willing to complete an Entry Level Screening Pack and be confirmed as a suitable person to access Government resources prior to commencement in the role.
