The University Hospital of Tübingen is a leading center of German university medicine. Every year, around 75,000 inpatients and around 380,000 outpatients are treated. With around 11,000 employees, it is the largest employer in the region. The quality of patient care is certified with the KTQ seal of approval.
To support our bioinformatics team at the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene, we are looking for a
Bioinformatician (m/f/d)
at the Core Facility - Microbial Genomics in part time (with a volume of employment of 50 %), funded until 31.12.2026 with possibility of extension at the earliest possible date.
The Core Facility Genomics (head Dr. Nicolas Casadei) was established in 2015 and offers sequencing services for researchers of the University of Tübingen and from overall Germany. Since 2018 it is also one of four DFG NGS (Next Generation Sequencing) competence centers for high throughput sequencing in Germany, the “NGS competence center Tübingen, NCCT-. NGS allows to capture and quantifiy the genome, epigenome, and transcriptome of a biological sample. This is also possible for complex samples that harbor a complex interplay to persist in a specific environment. Besides offering sequencing service, we support research processes in several aspects: by knowledge transfer, by improving reproducibility of research results, and by offering highest reliability. The Core Facility Genomics is part of the Medical Faculty and located at two different sites: at the Institute of Medical Genetics and Applied Genomics and the Institute of Medical Microbiology and Hygiene.

Primary (quality control of sequencing data) and secondary bioinformatics analyses (genome and metagenome assembly and annotation, differential gene expression of bacterial isolates or complex samples)
Maintenance of IT- and data infrastructure (storage, transfer, digital archiving of NGS data)
Planning and accurate documentation of analyses, preparation of self-explanatory reports for team members and cooperation partners without informatic background
Handling of sequencing data of different technologies (Illumina, Nanopore)
