With cutting-edge research in the fields of ENERGY, HEALTH and MATTER, around 1,500 employees from more than 70 nations at Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf (HZDR) are committed to mastering the great challenges facing society today.
The Institute for Ion Beam Physics and Materials Research is dedicated to the study of materials and their nanostructures that can be considered for future applications in information technology and are based on electrical, magnetic or optical functionalities.
Two-dimensional (2D) coherent THz spectroscopy is a novel approach based on a collinear interaction geometry of a sequence of THz pulses with the sample. It is commonly used to study the non-linear optical effects in various materials and especially has a vast potential to study and disentangle the exotic lattice and magnetic properties of quantum materials.
The Department of Spectroscopy is looking for an excellent PhD Student (f/m/d) candidate to utilize this technique to study exotic magnetic excitations in functional materials, with a particular emphasis on fractionalized spinon excitations in the so-called quantum spin liquid candidates.
