We are looking for an Industrial PhD Student in the topic of Direct-to-Smartphone Satellite Communications. Non-terrestrial networks (NTN) with direct-to-smartphone connectivity augment 5G and beyond 5G wireless communication systems and provide coverage in areas currently not served by terrestrial networks. Currently several low-earth orbit (LEO) satellite mega-constellations are planned and launched. However, for direct-to-smartphone connectivity from LEO satellites, the propagation channel is a particularly challenging because it involves large path-losses and high and rapidly changing Doppler frequencies and propagation delays. As a PhD student in Wireless Terminal Chipset Technology Lab at MRC you will explore the latest technology to optimize digital signal processing algorithms for the satellite and/or the smartphone side. You will identify yourself the detailed PhD topic and contribute to state of the art and publish results in one or more of the following areas: Effects of antenna array processing at the satellite side on communication link Multi-antenna processing for the smartphone LEO satellite-based positioning Wideband processing for the LEO satellite channel Join us as a Industrial PhD Student in Direct-to-Smartphone Satellite Communications (m/f/d) (m/f/d) Your areas of expertise Master's degree or an equivalent degree in Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering or RF engineering Fundamental knowledge of wireless communications including 5G and OFDM, linear algebra and matrix computations Ability to read and understand advanced research publications in signal processing Self-motivation and a strong desire to understand the challenges, excellent problem-solving skills Strong interest in innovative solutions and technologies in wireless communications Familiarity with at least one of following programming languages: Matlab, Python Fluent in English, both written and spoken Preferred additional qualifications Good academic transcripts from university Background in algorithm simulations Background in optimization theory German and/or Chinese language skills is an advantage By applying to this position, you agree with our Recruitment Privacy Statement.
