Responsibilities Operates commercial laundry machines to wash bulk laundry items. Loads and unloads items into and out of washing machines and dryers. Ensures proper sort, loading capacity, cleaning solvents and correct settings for operation of machinery. Folds and stacks finished items. Cleans rooms, corridors, stairways and other areas. Sweeps, mops, vacuums, scrubs, strips and polishes using light and heavy duty powered equipment. Operated industrial equipment to clean rugs, drapes, etc. Perform routine maintenance of equipment. Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes toilet facilities. Cleans and dusts assigned areas. Empties trash. Washes walls, windows, blinds and ceiling fixtures using ladders, scaffolds and safety belt. Moves heavy furniture, maintains stock of room and cleaning supplies to perform assigned duties. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision. Ability to maintain tools and equipment. Ability to keep areas neat and clean and in order. Highly preferred: Possess six (6) months professional/commercial experience in custodial or laundry operations. SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE: Must have knowledge of loading capacities of laundry machines. Must be able to troubleshoot, make adjustment, and perform minor maintenance of equipment. Must have the ability to follow instructions and read signs. Must have basic knowledge of common cleaning solvents, cleaning tools, and equipment. RESPONSIBILITY: Works according to set procedures and production schedules. Oral instructions are provided about how the work should be done and the incumbent is responsible for following instructions and complying with standard methods and procedures on production and quality. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside areas that are noisy, hot and humid. Exposed to dirt and disagreeable odors, vibration from use of heavy equipment, and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions. Exposed to the possibility of bruises from moving carts or falls on wet floors. Care is required to avoid serious injury when working on ladders and when moving or using heavy powered equipment.
