The proton irradiation centre at HZB in Berlin-Wannsee is Germany's first proton therapy facility and unique in its technical capability. We treat patients with eye tumours with proton beams since 1998 in cooperation with the Charité — Universitätsmedizin Berlin, Campus Benjamin Franklin. In addition to treatment operation, we are involved in research, e.g., beam delivery for FLASH-irradiations and minibeams, dosimetry, and accelerator development. As Postdoc, you will be responsible for the ion sources and injectors of the cyclotron. ECR-sources and Duoplasmatrons, which provide hydrogen and helium ions, are available on site. A Tandetron, and a 6 MV Van-de-Graaff serve as injectors. Your Tasks You will further develop the ion sources and the injectors. You will perform beam dynamic simulations. You will characterize the beam and match it to the cyclotron. You will participate in experiments that require special beam parameters. You will present your results in project meetings, national and international conferences, and publish them in scientific journals and reports.
