Job Description: In order to support the Design office, Airbus Helicopters is looking for an Internship Lightning Hazards for Helicopters operations with external loads Location: Donauwörth Start: June to August/ can be adapted Duration: 3 months Helicopter external load operations require the installation of electrical and mechanical systems which increase the risk of triggered lightning strikes. For instance these operations include load hoisting and carrying for civil works and fire fighting. Such a lightning strike attachment on the helicopter can lead to current spikes up to 200KA potentially leading to system damages and malfunctions. This risk is presently managed by operation limitations in stormy weather conditions. The objective is to assess the potential adverse effects of a lightning strike triggered by the presence of external loads. The lightning current distribution at helicopter level and the lightning induced transients on electrical systems will be calculated by the use of 3D simulations. Design recommendations and lightning protection features will be defined to prevent lightning hazards and therefore to ensure the safety of the customer operations in all weather conditions. Your location At our Donauwörth site, located on the banks of the river Danube, we develop helicopters from the initial idea to the airworthy product.
