The University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG) unites the Medical Faculty of the Georg-August University and the University Hospital in an integration model. With around 9,700 employees, the UMG and its subsidiaries are one of the largest employers in the region. Our clinics and institutes stand for high-quality patient care, excellent research, modern teaching and innovative transfer.
Göttingen as a city of science is located in the center of Germany and the University Medical Center Göttingen is integrated into an attractive network of university and non-university scientific institutions.
The Institut für Herz- und Kreislaufphysiologie of the University Medical Centre Göttingen is looking for a new position to 01.05.2025

Heart failure is one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality worldwide. At the cell level, the injured heart reacts with complex and stereotypical remodeling processes in cardiomyocytes and in the so-called non-cardiomyocytes (fibroblasts, endothelial cells, immune cells, etc.). Striking changes in these cells are redox-dependent modifications to regulatory proteins. An imbalance in the production of reactive oxygen species and an altered "redox state" is involved in many cardiac stress reactions that are involved in the development of heart failure. As part of our projects, we develop technical tools for the quantification of redox changes in cardiomyocytes and non-cardiomyocytes and their consequences for the function at cell and organ level (see for example doi.org/10.1038/s41467-023-37744-x).
