A Brief Overview In the role of VP, Business Development for Continental Europe you will Gather market intelligence via network of contacts, communicate opportunities and evaluation to the business. Position RGA as the partner of choice for European life insurance transactions Drive strategic direction of the business unit, including sourcing and qualifying new opportunities, client engagement and negotiations throughout a transaction, transaction structuring, due diligence and project management throughout the life of a transaction. Lead communication with Senior Executives of both RGA and client companies. Responsibilities Ensure RGA meets its new business targets for Europe. Lead and direct internal and external networking: Relationships at c-suite level (i.e. CEO, CFO and CRO) at primary clients, Financial Sponsors, Investment Bankers, Brokers, M&A counsel, and regulators. Gain market intelligence, insights into market activities and partnership opportunities. Enhance RGA’s reputation within the European market by identifying, contacting and presenting RGA to ‘buyers’ and by presenting at seminars and publishing articles in industry press, etc. Be aware of all business being sold across Europe. Oversee project management of transaction activities, from setting up deal teams to assuring successful integration of won transactions Lead messaging and interfacing with seller / seller’s advisors Lead negotiations of the acquisition and the closing process Close co-ordination and collaboration with deal specific teams Present opportunities to Executive management and/or RGA Boards as needed Lead opportunities in close collaboration with Corporate and other business units: Understand RGA’s standards and philosophy and identify the needs of that client and particularly the opportunities for RGA. Fit structures or develop RGA products to meet that opportunity by utilizing and controlling resources available. Prepare and present indicative structures and terms pricing to clients and receive their buy in. Carry the opportunity through to closure whether that be implementation or withdrawal from the opportunity. Work with the internal staff in promoting RGA in Europe. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor’s degree in Business, Maths, Finance, Actuarial Sciences, Statistics, Econometrics or related field. Experience in Financial Services, and specifically working on life insurance ALM, either in insurance/reinsurance, investment banking, asset management or consulting. Expert knowledge in derivatives and life insurance ALM. Soft Skills and abilities Expert persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers to resolve issues/problems Fluency in German and English. Proficiency in a third European language preferred would be an asset. Demonstrated M&A and / or reinsurance experience Highly advanced knowledge insurance and capital markets dynamics in Europe Advanced knowledge of broad business and finance-related practices Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines. Expert oral and written communication and presentation skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received by all associates and management at all levels and by external contacts Expert level of investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills Expert ability to work well in an environment with multiple concurrent projects, cyclical workflow and demanding time frames Expert ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines Ability to travel around 30 percent of time.
