Hauptaufgaben
Serves as a calibration specialist in the parameters of electrical, electronic, microwave, physical and dimensional standards and measurements applicable to the calibration, certification and evaluation of unusually complex high precision calibration laboratory reference standards. These reference standards are the highest precision instruments outside the Army Primary Standards Laboratory (APSL) and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The traceability to the international system of units (SI) of all Army measurements including field maintenance, depot maintenance, research and development, garrison, and health and safety are dependent on the accuracy of these reference standards. This calibration reference standards work is only performed at a limited number of U.S. Army Reference Laboratories to provide traceable calibrations through the APSL and NIST to the SI.
Performs calibration and isolates malfunctions of unusually complex and unique precision measurement standards which are utilized at lower echelon Army calibration laboratories. Parameters include microwave measurement systems, oscilloscope calibrations systems, AC-DC/Low Frequency Meter Core Stations, signal/function generator calibration systems, and various physical dimensional and mechanical calibration standards.
Calibrates customer test, measurement, and diagnostic equipment (TMDE) requiring measurement accuracies only available at the reference laboratory level. As workload permits, may also calibrate and perform incidental repair of general or special purpose TMDE.
Perform inter-laboratory comparisons of reference level standards with other Army reference laboratories to validate accuracy. Follows existing inter-comparison procedures and modifies procedures as required by atypical requirements and equipment, conducts measurements, reduces data, and evaluates results to determine acceptable or unacceptable standards agreement. Work with APSL engineers in determining root cause of measurement disagreements.
Conduct external measurement audits received bi-annually from the USATA Quality Assurance Office: providing best measurement results including determination and selection of appropriate standards procedure/technique, data collection, reduction, analysis and interpretation including measurement uncertainty estimates. Identify and correct root cause of any discrepancies/deficiencies revealed by audit.
Selects, applies, and interprets metrology principles and practices as related to the specialty area as required to collect, reduce, and display actual data, and provide information for a wide variety of TMDE, while ensuring documentation conforms to Quality Systems requirements. Measurement uncertainties are computed and assigned through application and understanding of statistical methods.
Prepares test and certification reports for customer use, providing specific information such as assigned values, corrections, and measurement uncertainties for instruments being calibrated.
Interfaces with user and manufacturer of the equipment as necessary to clarify questionable areas concerning the use and accuracy of instruments and nonstandard TMDE.
Assists and advises users in the instrument selection, application, measurement accuracy, and recommended calibration requirements for TMDE in support of their mission.
Recommends implements, adapts, modifies and periodically assist in the development new calibration procedures required by the changing of calibration standards, user or equipment requirements, or when no calibration procedure exists.
Prepares reports to correct errors in existing procedures and provides technical information used in the decision making process for the development of documents used for TMDE certification.
Serves, as the workload dictates, as a specialist in vibration, acoustics, temperature, relative humidity, length, angle, mass, force, torque, pressure, wind speed, vacuum, and ionizing and non-ionizing radiation measurement areas.
Incumbent must have a good English language proficiency level to be able to read, understand and apply technical manuals which are only available in English.
Performs other duties as assigned.
