This project:
ABBA (Apple, Bee, Bacteria, Antagonists) on Fire (Fire Blight) is an internal consortium project at JKI, which investigates an innovative treatment approach based on natural tailocin-producing bacteria for combating the fire blight pathogen Erwinia amylovora in organic pome fruit cultivation.
In addition to efficacy, the project also examines potential impacts on non-target organisms and the influence of environmental factors. Apart from the Institute for plant protection in fruit crops and viticulture (Dossenheim), five other JKI institutes are involved in this project.
The possibility of pursuing a Phd within the context of this project is given. Your responsibilities:
- screening and isolation of potential fire blight antagonists from the pomefruit microbiome;
- planning and conduction of plant experiments for antagonist characterisation in greenhouse and field trials;
- contributing to the functional characterisation of tailocins;
- close cooperation with consortium partners and preparation of project reports;
- publication of results in scientific journals, presentation at national and international conferences. Your profile:
- a completed academic university degree (Univ.-Dipl./M.Sc.) in Biology, Biotechnology, Plant Sciences, or a related
discipline;
- good knowledge in bacteriology or microbiology, with preferably experience in the conduction of plant experiments;
